Thoor Ballylee
near
Gort,
was the holiday residence of W.B. Yeats
with its narrow steep and worn stairs
winding their way to the top of the
tower with one room at each level.
Near by is Coole Park and House the home
of Lady Augusta Gregory dramatist
co-founder of the Abbey Theatre. To day
Coole Park is a National Park with its
wild deer, see the famous Autographed
tree and also visit Coole Lake with its
famous (wild swans of Coole). Then onto
Kilmacdough monastery 7th century tower
in ruin with a lean of over half a metre
from the
vertical it is over 20 meters tall with
the only
doorway 7 meters above ground level,
then return to
Galway City.
